Press Release from Texas Eagle Forum (TEF)
STOP HB 4, FAILED Government Pre-K
HB 4 by Reps. Huberty, Desotel, Ken King, Giddings and Ashby is a state Pre-K program modeled after the federal Head Start Pre-K program that has already proven to be an abysmal failure. Now Gov. Abbott wants to impose a similar Pre-K program in Texas. It’s WRONG to take young children from their parents and institutionalize them. And to create a government program that competes with church programs that teach Biblical values–values that are routinely MOCKED in public schools. Pre-K is aJOBS PROGRAM for teachers with NO CAP on spending GOUGING TAXPAYERSwith an ever-growing budget. HB 4 has passed the House and is awaiting action in the Senate. Please ask your Senator to OPPOSE HB 4. TEF Legislative Liaison MerryLynn Gerstenschlager courageously testified AGAINST HB 4 in the House committee public hearing.

WHY LOWER Education Standards?
HB 742 by Huberty, Galindo and Metcalf, Coauthor Isaac that would eliminate the state-required 8th grade test in social studies. Eliminating a test would NOT IMPROVE education, but would LOWER the standards. HB 742 is in the Calendars Committee and could be set for a floor vote any day. Please ask your Representative to OPPOSE HB 742. TEF Legislative Liaison MerryLynn Gerstenschlager courageously testified AGAINST HB 742 in the House committee public hearing.
SAVE Marriage in Texas
HB 4105 by Reps. Cecil Bell and Drew Springer has 50 co-authors was voted OUT of the House State Affairs Committee and sent to the Calendars Committee to be set for a vote on the House floor. Please ask your State Rep. to vote FOR HB 4105.
Then contact Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick at 512-463-0001 and firstname.lastname@example.org and let Lt. Gov. Patrick know that you want him to pass the Texas Senate companion bill to HB 4105 which is SB 673 by Sen. Charles Perry.
Finally, contact Gov. Greg Abbott at 512-463-2000 and at email@example.com. Encourage him to support the passage of HB 4105.
HB 4105 is a simple, two-page bill that affirms our existing law and also defunds homosexual marriage. This law will enable our Attorney General Ken Paxton to safeguard Texas against the potential upcoming judicial supremacy by the U.S. Supreme Court. The passage of HB 4105 now will enable Texas to defend against the imminent out-of-state pressure to impose homosexual marriage on Texas beginning the last week in June.
HB 4105 is the litmus test for Republican State Legislators and state wide officials. We must prevent those who practice and promote sodomy, and advocate the desecration of Biblical marriage from influencing the Republican Party and dominating Texas politics. Andy Schlafly flew in from the East Coast to testify FOR HB 4105. TEF Legislative Liaison MerryLynn Gerstenschlager also testified FOR HB 4105 in the House committee public hearing.
Can you afford to pay $10-$20/day in tolls to get to work?
HB 1835 by Rep. Scott Sanford is stalled in the House Transportation Committee after a public hearing last March 24! It would simply PREVENT FREE LANES FROM BEING CONVERTED TO TOLL LANES (companion bills SB 1238/SB 937 by Senators Van Taylor and Lois Kolkhorst).- Many existing freeway lanes are being converted into toll lanes and the non-toll lanes are being downgraded to frontage roads. This is highway robbery, literally, as well as DOUBLE TAXATION. It’s happened on parts of Hwy 183, 290, 71, and 130 and is planned for 281.
With less than 30 days left in the session, it’s time for our bills to MOVE. Hundreds of toll projects are already in the State Transportation Plan. Without our reform bills, they’ll continue despite the new road funding that’s moving forward.
TOLL CESSATION, SB 485/HB 1734 – Kolkhorst/Shaheen, would remove the tolls when the roads are paid for to prevent perpetual taxation. This also stops ‘system financing’ which pilfers ‘surplus toll revenues’ on one toll road to be used to finance or build another, keeping the toll in place longer.
SJR 43/SB 1182 by Senator Don Huffines would ENSURE GAS TAXES (& ALL PUBLIC ROAD FUNDS) GO TO NON-TOLL ROADS ONLY. – In the House, they did amend HB 122 to restrict Texas Mobility Funds to non-toll roads, but FAILED to adopt an amendment to the budget by Rep. Jeff Leach to stop our state gas taxes from being used to build toll roads. This is DOUBLE TAXATION and uses up all our FREE road money to build toll roads! If tax money is used to build a road, it should be a FREEway not toll road!
Speaker Straus and Lt Governor Patrick need to use their influence over the Committee Chairs they appointed to push these reforms through the legislature BEFORE the clock runs out.
1) Contact Lt. Governor Dan Patrick
512-463-1778 (Policy Director, Kate McGrath’s Office)
Ask Lt. Gov. Patrick to push our toll road reforms bills through QUICKLY. Pass SB 485, SJR 43/SB 1182, and SB 1238/SB 937. Texans must be protected from toll road abuses and punitive toll taxation that’s increased the tax burden on driving to $200-$400 a month for many Texas commuters.
2) Contact Speaker Joe Straus
512-463-0056 (Chief of Staff, Jesse Ancira’s Office)
Ask Speaker Straus to push our toll road reforms bills by passing HB 1734, HB 1835, and amending HB 20 to ensure no state tax money can be used on toll roads. Texans must be protected from toll road abuses and punitive toll taxation that’s increased the tax burden on driving to $200-$400 a month for many Texas commuters.
American Laws for American Courts
HB 562 by Rep. Jeff Leach, along with 4 other authors and 42 coauthors, would protect Texas Courts from ALL FOREIGN laws. It was voted out of committee last week. It now goes to the Calendars Committee. Please ask these Calendars Committee members to schedule HB 562 for a floor vote. TEF Legislative Liaison Trayce Bradford testified FOR HB 562 at the Public Hearing. And invited a number of expert witnesses to testify as well.
|Texas Electric Grid–Senate & House Public Hearings
SB 1398 by Senator Bob Hall would protect critical infrastructure from electromagnetic, geomagnetic, terrorist, and cyber-attack threats. It was left PENDING in committee after a public hearing last week. Please ask these committee members to vote SB 1298 OUT of committee.
HB 2289 by Rep. Tan Parker is the House bill that would protect the electric grid. A Public Hearing was held last week in the House State Affairs Committee. Please call the Committee members and ask them to vote HB 2289 OUT of committee.
Interstate Compact on Border Security, Immigration & Enforcement
NO Constitutional Convention, aka Article V Convention
HJR 77 by:
as well as HB 1110, HJR 78 and HJR 79 could open our U.S. Constitution to extremely damaging changes. Once a convention is called by the states, the Congress would take control. HJR 77 has been sent to the Calendar Committee. TEF member Shirley Spellerberg and friend Davis Ford both testified AGAINST HJR 77. Please ask the Calendars Committee members to NOT schedule HJR 77, HJR 78, HJR 79 or HB 1110 for a vote on the House floor:
