The next Edom Tea Party meeting is Monday, May 8th at 7:00 p.m. at the Edom City Limits. Our guest speaker will be Ginny Judson, the Child Protective Service (CPS) program administrator of regions 4 and 5 which includes Van Zandt County. This is a timely subject since the state’s program is under scrutiny and Van Zandt County has its share of problems. We will be given an overview of the mission and purpose of the program along with its accomplishments and short comings. There is legislation being considered in Austin in regards to CPS and we as a group can evaluate the validity of such proposed bills with the intention of lending support for those worthy of such.
This should be a very worthwhile meeting for the entire community especially the Christian community. We have continued to abdicate our responsibility as Christian to the government. We need to explore the ways our Churches can aide and if possible take the leading role in finding foster and adoptive homes and other such services. You have time to reach out to your church leaders inviting them to at least attend and obtain firsthand knowledge of the problems we are facing in Van Zandt County with neglected and abused children.
Other topics to be discussed are the pending bills which we are supporting that as of yet have not been passed. Most notably is the “Bathroom Bill” and the Sanctuary Cities Bill. Also candidates have already declared for the 2018 elections and we need to discuss vetting them and those incumbents they are opposing.
