Is THE FALL of Our Nation upon Us?
The FALL. No, not the one in the Garden of Eden, although it probably played a part, I’m talking about The Fall of the United States since 1787. Some of you—a few of you—may recognize this as the year our Constitution was instituted. It’s also the year that the Northwest Ordinance was created, but we’ll get back to that later in the article. A few of you may also be aware that the week of 17 September was Constitution Week, observed (Or NOT!). For the vast majority it was not observed or even noted. Also, probably not generally known, is that according to Public Law S. S. Code 108.447 sec 111, “Every School that received Federal Funds “SHALL” have a program on the Constitution” during that week. Humm… Musta missed that? You’re not the only one. Five school districts around Tyler were not aware of this requirement. Canton High School was made aware of this observation, but elected to rebuff the offer to make a presentation on the Constitution in the Cafeteria during lunch break. Van ISD was more obliging and the presentation was well received. Kudos!
Absolutely contributing to The Fall of this nation is the general ignorance of OUR Constitution, especially as it was originally instituted. And “the powers that be” are doing all that they can to insure that this remains the case (i.e. OUR Public Schools). WE certainly didn’t begin in this state of ignorance, but got here as fast as we could.
Benjamin Rush was one of OUR more influential Founding Fathers. He is one of six Founders who signed both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, but his contribution has probably been overshadowed due to his being in company with a more popular and frequently quoted Benjamin in that august group of “signers.” In particular Rush was very influential in forming the original structure of our Public Education system. He received a “degree” in Chemistry at age 15 and became a medical doctor at age 24, so he might have some insight on the system of education.
As previously mentioned, Benjamin Rush was also very influential in authoring the Northwest Ordinance. You may remember that the Northwest Ordinance delineated the rules for those in the “northwest territories” who wanted to be considered for statehood in the recently formed United States of America. Rush’s own words from the Northwest Ordinance’s give us the “flavor” of his character:
Article the Third. Religion, morality and knowledge, being necessary to good government and the happiness of Mankind, schools and the means of education shall FOREVER be encouraged….” (Emphasis added.)
The same Congress that passed the First Amendment in OUR Bill of Rights, the same year that it passed OUR Constitution, also reaffirmed the Northwest Ordinance which contained the following:
- Christianity to be taught by the newly-admitted states in their schools.
- Language from the Ordinance is found in state constitutions for 100 years
- This Ordinance single handedly refutes the myth of “separation of church and state.” That myth holds that the government cannot “endorse” religion over non-religion. This Ordinance unmistakably does so.
- The myth says schools are no place for religion. This Ordinance unmistakably says schools are necessary to teach religion.
So how far off-track are WE? The following goals from “The Communist Takeover of America. 45 Declared Goals 1963. (Coincidentally, isn’t 1963 the same year WE took prayers out of our Public Schools? Jess’ sayin’.)
#17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of the teachers associations. (NEA?) Put the Party line in textbooks.
#26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy, and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”
#28. Eliminate prayer or any phrase of religious expression in the schools on the grounds that it violates the principles of “separation of church and state.”
A fist-bump might be in order if you are of that persuasion, otherwise, hold your applause until THE END. A casual observer can easily conclude that the communist have been more successful at promoting their agenda than WE have been at maintaining the agenda given to us by OUR Founders and in particular Benjamin Rush. For future contemplation consider the following quotes from Benjamin Rush as we try to find OUR way back:
If we were to remove the Bible from public schools we would be wasting so much time punishing crimes and taking so little pains to prevent them.
The great enemy of the salvation of man, in my opinion, never invented a more effective means of limiting Christianity from the world than by persuading mankind that it was improper to read the Bible at schools.
The only foundation for . . . a republic is to be laid in Religion. Without this there can be no virtue, and without virtue there can be no liberty, and liberty is the object and life of all republican government.
Let the children…be carefully instructed in the principles and obligations of the Christian religion. This is the most essential part of education.
I do not believe that the Constitution was the offspring of inspiration, but I am as satisfied that it is as much the work of a Divine Providence as any of the miracles recorded in the Old and New Testament. (AMEN…Milt)
