FREE: Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Waterfowl Workshop and Mentored Hunts
Have you ever wanted to get into duck hunting but didn’t know how to start? The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is hosting a free Waterfowl Workshop on Saturday, October 14 to give participants the basic information needed to get started. The morning classroom session will be held at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens, and the afternoon field session will be at Purtis Creek State Park. All attendees will be eligible to attend a guided waterfowl hunt at Purtis Creek State Park on either January 6, 2018 or January 20, 2018.
Topics to be covered in the classroom include:
-Basic Waterfowl and Wetland Biology
-Waterfowl Hunting Equipment/What to Bring for the Hunt
-Where to Hunt
-Waterfowl Hunting Laws and Ethics
Field Activities will include:
-Skeet shooting (bring your own shotgun or use one of ours)
-Blind and decoy set-ups
The workshop and hunt are available to participants 9 years old and older. The workshop is free to all participants, and the hunt is free for youth 16 and under. Adults 17 and up will need to purchase a $25 Mentored Hunt Permit on the day of the hunt.
