THE WATCHMAN: Who really is America’s Team?
Isaiah 62:6 ~ I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the Lord, keep not silence…
It is not the Dallas Cowboys or any other football team. It is the military that has given their lives so others can be free. It is the veteran who leaves the safe space of the United States, aware that they may not return, to travel to battlefields around the world to defend such freedoms. It is the mom and dad who go to work every day struggling to provide for their family. It is the single parent who may work 2-3 jobs, to stay afloat in a very tough economy. It is the bus driver who transports our children to and from school every day and cannot get 40 hours per week to make ends meet. It is the truck drivers who leave their families for days at a time to deliver goods and services.
It is all first responders such as our police officers, our military personnel, the fire departments and any other volunteer organization that heads into a national crisis such as hurricanes, floods, and tornados. So many of these put their own lives on the line to save the lives of others. Our most recent examples on a very large scale are the floods in Houston, the hurricane in Puerto Rico and Florida, the fires in the upper northwest, and the recent mass shooting in Las Vegas. Many families watch their loved ones go to work every day and wonder if they will ever return home. So…. I ask you… Who really is America’s team?
It is my opinion that all of these hard workers are America’s Team. That’s one reason I get irritated about the current situation in the sporting world with respect to honoring the American flag and the National Anthem. The fact that they have stolen my personal time of rest and relaxation by politicizing this issue is not acceptable to me. I for one, have voted with my remote and chosen not to watch until the issue is settled.
The NFL teams, Baltimore Ravens and the Jacksonville Jaguars kneeling on foreign soil and standing up for the British National Anthem was such a disgrace to our Nation and what we stand for. It’s bad enough that players would choose to air the laundry out on an international platform, because we can’t even agree on what should be done in our own country. It reminds me of Obama travelling to other countries and apologizing for what he deemed was wrong with the U.S.
On the Tucker Carlson show (Fox News date 09-28-17) Monique Pressley, Trial Lawyer, brought up Kaepernick who spearheaded this taking a knee campaign to highlight what he considers the unjust treatment and oppression of black Americans by primarily the police departments across the nation.
You may not be aware that Kaepernick is endorsing and has given to Joanne Chesimard’s foundation a twenty-five-thousand-dollar donation. This woman, a fugitive in Cuba, named to the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists list was convicted 40 years ago for murdering a New Jersey State Trooper named Werner Foerster and was granted asylum in Cuba, where she has been living since the 1980s.
When people come on television and call Kaepernick a “hero” it gives me a true picture of how they feel about the United States of America. How can one endorse someone who killed a state trooper and turn around and ask the rest of America to join in on his beliefs? My goodness, there is no other country on earth in which a person of color cannot only succeed in any field, but become a millionaire for just playing a sport for a few years.
Chesimard said… it is constitutional to kneel before the flag and Kaepernick is a hero. My wife and I were discussing equality in the national football league. These are the facts. Seventy percent of the NFL league consists of Black Americans. That doesn’t sound equal to me. Here is equality: 20 percent American Indians, 20 percent Mexican Americans, 20 percent Caucasian Americans, 20 percent Black Americans and 20 percent of all other nationalities combined should make it equal within the NFL.

Oh, by the way, those that just stand locking arms are still not following the Code of Conduct, which explains the actions to be taken when the flag is presented and the National Anthem is played or sung. Remember, this was passed in l942 and signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. I would say to those riding the fence, trying to keep one toe on the ground and one in the water… just do what should be done.
Owners, don’t be afraid of your million dollar employees. Remember, you are in charge. Stand up for all America. Let those that feel the need to express their displeasure do so, in a different venue, but be sure that it is a peaceful protest that can lead to positive results.
There is still racism within every part of our nation, but that can’t be legislated. The cure for racism is a heart change, by the Lord Jesus himself. We need to really BELIEVE that God created each of us, and we should remember that, when we have opportunity to have dialogue with anyone. We have different cultures and ideals, but if we respect our differences and show forth the love of Jesus we will be just fine. I do believe we are a long way from that as a nation.
I am a veteran and have three awesome bi-racial (black and white) grandchildren and two awesome Caucasian grandchildren. In my own opinion, these same individuals are putting or laying on little children’s foundation (SOUL), a dysfunctional lifestyle. When I see little children being affected and being used to spread a false agenda of how they should act during the playing of the National Anthem or how to act when the Flag is displayed, it is disgusting. The key word is LAID “THERE ARE THREE KEY WORDS THAT COME OUT THE GREEK FOR THE WORD LAID. PURPOSE, PROMISE OR FIXED WITH POWER OF AUTHORITY.” What have we laid on the foundation of our children’s hearts/souls/minds?
The average salary of the NFL player is 2.44 million dollars a year. The average that comes from tax payer dollars for an NFL stadium is 266 million dollars a year. Since the year 2000… 3.2 billion dollars have helped build private sports stadiums. Then factor in local sports stadiums at $5.9- $6.7 billion over the last 20 years. Just one more thing… a senate report found that from 2012 – 2015 the Department of Defense paid to the NFL $6.1 million to honor troops in NFL stadiums and for recruiting purposes. The NFL paid back 700 thousand dollars in response to this outlandish information.
Note the National Football League’s difference to the national code with the word may. In my own opinion, it is interesting to me the NFL have given themselves a way out by using the word may and the NFL Flag code is almost identical to the National Anthem Code.
In the meantime, our soldiers will go to battle daily all over the world, fighting for these freedoms and our way of life. Remember, freedom is never free. How hard is it to continue to show honor and respect where it is due to all the veterans…past and present? Let’s not let their sacrifices be trampled underfoot.
