Recognizing the Miracles around Us
Because of a burden to establish good relations between Christians and Jews, the People through whom God promised the Messiah, Steve Wearp and his family have learned to focus on Miracles God has performed and prophecy that has been brought to pass in the land of Israel. They have created their ministry and business, Blessed Buy Israel, and BBI Ministries to bless the People of Israel in promoting and marketing products online, that are made specifically in Judea and Samaria.
Due to the international anti-semitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel, initiated in December of 2015 by the European Union (EU), the labeling of products from Judea and Samaria was restricted from claiming products “Made in Israel.” The EU refused to recognize Judea and Samaria as part of Israel. Instead, their products must now be labeled “Made in the West Bank,” or “Made in the Palestinian Authority,” or suffer the effects of BDS policy. Judea and Samaria are the “West Bank,” which many may not be aware. They have a very rich Judeo-Christian, Biblical history.
Wearp explained that a week later, after the EU initiated the sanctions, “the Obama Administration followed suit, using a clause from the Clinton Era, of the Oslo Accords, that would also enable the U.S. to force them to label accordingly.”
Remembering World War II history, and how Christians were silent when they first boycotted Jewish businesses, and then soldiers came for the Jews, and transported them to torturous concentration camps, Wearp, a primary organizer of the March of Remembrance for Holocaust victims in the United States said, “…our family sat down and said, ‘Are we going to be silent?’ ‘Will we be the same as our fathers?’ And, we decided to make a difference. We prayed, and sat there and brain stormed; and we decided that we would come up and start promoting products that come out of Judea and Samaria. And that is when Blessed Buy Israel was formed.”
“Our speaking and education programs on Judea and Samaria are the ministry portion and the sales of products are actually to promote and support the settlers or pioneers, resettle the land of Judea and Samaria,” said Wearp.
Fortunately, there was enough of an outcry in the U.S. that Congress did not enforce that labeling policy against Judea and Samaria, despite the Obama Administration’s attempt to enforce the BDS policy through Border Patrol and Customs.
A year later, Resolution 2334 passed in the United Nations, which said that any Jewish settlement or Jewish presence in the West Bank was considered illegal by international law, and that they needed to be removed. The UN was advising the U.S. and other countries to help enforce this policy. However, there really are no illegal Jewish settlements. There has never been a Palestinian State, and Israel has not given up their Jewish settlements there. Wearp explained, “There is no [Arab] Palestinian history. Palestinians are a made-up entity. That new race of people was actually created by the indigenous Arabs that live there.” They considered themselves citizens of the Ottoman Empire, which is modern-day Turkey. It was primarily Jews who referred to themselves as Palestinians until the name was changed at the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.
The BDS movement has hurt Israel, however, we have a chance to support Israeli businesses through our buying power. The BDS-inspired labeling and UN resolution are working hand-in-hand. “Currently,” said Wearp, “the UN is trying to push out a blacklist of companies doing business in Judea and Samaria to force companies like Caterpillar, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, Apple… many countries that are getting software, getting hardware, programming, getting high tech equipment, medical…anything to do with Israel, to put them on the blacklist and force boycotts; and they’re trying to publish this to the international community… The EU could say, ‘We want to know all the components that are in your Caterpillar tractors and your software, your programming, your e-proms, and anything else; and if you’re using anything from Israel, we’re not going to purchase.’ So, they start putting pressure on companies to actually force them to change their manufacturing processes. This is totally illegal to force an American company to change what we’re doing. That’s against any free trade agreement, especially with one of our closest allies.”
Congress is trying to pass laws to prevent any future enforcement of BDS. “The blacklist is probably the most dangerous list right now, that blacklist of companies,” warned Wearp. This is why he views his business and ministry, that works with small businesses and farmers in Judea and Samaria as being so important. BBI is helping to tear down the walls of anti-Semitism. “We’re the hands and feet, in my opinion, of what God is doing in the land of Israel today,” said Wearp. “We are able to come alongside them to enable them to fulfill God’s calling in their lives, and be a complement.”
Additionally, Wearp sees Biblical prophecy for the land itself, coming to pass before his very eyes, with many fruit trees planted and producing, in what was not long ago a dry, barren land. Isaiah 35: 1,2 (NIV) says:
1The desert and the parched land will be glad;
the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.
Like the crocus, 2it will burst into bloom;
it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.
The glory of Lebanon will be given to it,
the splendor of Carmel and Sharon;
they will see the glory of the Lord,
the splendor of our God.
Amos 9:11-15 (NIV) reads:
11“In that day
I will restore David’s fallen shelter—
I will repair its broken walls
and restore its ruins—
and will rebuild it as it used to be,
12so that they may possess the remnant of Edom
and all the nations that bear my name,e ”
declares the Lord, who will do these things.
13“The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when the reaper will be overtaken by the plowman
and the planter by the one treading grapes.
New wine will drip from the mountains
and flow from all the hills,
“They will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them.
They will plant vineyards and drink their wine;
they will make gardens and eat their fruit.
15I will plant Israel in their own land,
never again to be uprooted
from the land I have given them,”
Acts 15:16-18 references the above text.
People are always looking for a miracle. If we will focus on what God is doing all around us and in the land of Israel, we will see the miracles taking place. Wearp sees a move of God to put Jews back in their land; and he and his family have chosen to be a part of what God is doing. “We need to know our position, our call,” Steve urged. “This is the God we serve…He wants us part of what He’s doing, no sitting…this is not a football game, where you’re sitting on the sidelines. We are players. We need to know our position, our call. We need to know His play, His agenda.”
One of Wearp’s Jewish friends noticed of Christians that, “…we read prophecy and wonder, ‘What’s God going to do? What’s coming down the line in the future? What’s going to happen next?’ For us Jews, we look at prophecy and say, ‘Okay. God has done this, now what is our part?’”
Twenty-five years ago, Wearp saw ancient Shiloh, and looked for the tabernacle. He asked a Jewish woman where the tabernacle was. She pointed to rocks and rubble. Twenty-five years later, Wearp said that it is full of vineyards. “The land is blossoming,” he said.
In much of America, we tend to be very self-focused, instead of focusing on God and what He is doing. “We’re all looking for a miracle. Why isn’t God doing this? Why isn’t God doing that?” Wearp noticed. Maybe we’re not looking where He is looking. Maybe if we get in tune with what God sees as a priority, everything else falls in place. Until we get ourselves aligned with God’s vision, then we’re going to be dysfunctional. And our children, when they’re on board and recognizing what God is doing, they have something to live for, they have a future, they have purpose. All of a sudden, God’s Word comes alive… and they can see prophecy come alive all around us.”
May you and your family recognize the miracles of God’s handiwork as you celebrate His Son, the fulfillment of His prophecies, and join Him in His work for His glory!
