Main Street Program to Unveil Canton Pocket Park
The Texas Main Street Historical Commission and the National Main Street is unveiling the Imagine the Possibilities Tour of the Pocket Park in the grassy area on the northeast corner of the Courthouse Square, where movie night is hosted, in conjunction with Canton’s Autumn Festival this year on October 13. The Main Street Program is always looking for new and exiting ways to bring life to our little town, but look close, and you’ll notice that Canton isn’t as small as it used to be. We are growing as a town, community, and county. It is all because we have something that no one else has: First Monday Weekend. It is here and people like it, we all should love it. Because of First Monday Trade Days, there is something new coming to Canton that everyone should be excited about!
Some of the time as locals, when we think of First Monday weekend, we think of negatives associated with it, like the traffic, empty grocery store shelves; but we can take back roads or shop the week ahead. Unless, you are the one that is shopping, eating, or walking through it, you might feel it is a waste of space.
The thing is, Canton wouldn’t have a Walmart, Applebee’s, or Splash Kingdom without the revenue from First Monday. Yes, the traffic is thick on that weekend, but would you rather drive in Dallas or Tyler? We can always find a way around the traffic of First Monday.
Now, let me tell you why you should visit First Monday. It is the food! You can spend all day eating all kinds of different foods and the walking you do, keeps off the pounds. And, you will most likely see someone you know.
After you look around and try to appreciate all that our community has to offer, I want you to remember this: We can criticize and frown on everything that is bad in our communities, or we can try to make them better. When we put our minds to it, there is something we all can do to make it better for not only ourselves, but for our neighbors.
