Hope Pregnancy Center Supporters Gather to Celebrate
A large crowd of about 340 supporters came together October 6, 2018 for a night of commemorating the successes of the year at Hope Pregnancy Center of Canton. The annual fundraiser banquet was held at the Wills Point High School Cafetorium. “Creating Beauty from the Unexpected” was the night’s theme, inspired by the scripture verse Isaiah 43:19. The event’s meal was catered by Buttermilk’s of Canton, and Andrea Cox was the decorator for the event.
Johnny Blevins, owner of Splash Kingdom, began the program by introducing Pastor Mark Moore of Lakeside Baptist Church, who asked God’s blessing on the meal and the evening’s program. Glenn Gassiott, HPC Board President, then, presented awards to outgoing board members, Robert Fitzgerald and Paul Takach for their unwavering support and service to the HPC ministry over the past several years.
The audience took great pleasure in watching the adorable babies, their moms and dads, and the HPC staff in a slideshow depicting the very heart of Hope Pregnancy Center’s mission. Following the slideshow, the program continued as Executive Director, Jan Strait, gave a theme interpretation and report on the activities of the center over the last year, noting the 263 new clients, 751 classes, and 54 professions of faith in Jesus Christ made at the center in 2017. The band, Sanctum, then, sang “Beautiful Things” in keeping with the theme.
Krysta Shaw gave a moving first-hand account of her experience as a client at HPC through a testimonial video. A mother of five, she described how help has been given to her through classes, material resources, as well as spiritual and emotional guidance.
Dr. Michael Glover, featured speaker
The featured speaker, Dr. Michael Glover, OBGYN, from Cleburne, Texas conveyed information on his practice, abortion trends, and his stirring desire to see an end to abortion through the minds and hearts of people valuing life and teaching their children to value life. Dr. Glover also performed a live ultrasound, which was displayed on a large screen for the audience. The model for the ultrasound was one of HPC’s clients, Rachel Tomlin. Her baby-in-the-womb seemed to understand his moment in the spotlight, as the baby waved “Hello”, to the crowd’s delight.
Another inspiring moment came at the end of the program, as Joyce Gassiott, former HPC board president, led the audience in highlighting the name of every person who professed to giving their heart to Jesus Christ during the last 12 months. As each name was called, a person in the audience turned on a candle. At the end, 55 candles were lit in honor of the new believers, which many thought an impressive sight in the darkened room.
Following a time of commitment and opportunity to donate, Pastor Mitch Curtis, pastor of Harvest Bible Fellowship, closed the program in prayer.
Johnny Blevins expressed gratitude to all who participated in the banquet, saying It was a wonderful night of celebration and giving to Hope’s ministry. Everyone was invited to stay for the live auction.
