THE PROPOSAL (part 12) a secure connection
The next day Kelly came back to Mr. Destiny’s flat and spent the entire day reading. Although she wanted to skip ahead, she followed her mentor’s nudge. She read accounts from Carthage in Africa that took place miles and centuries away from the events surrounding the reign of King Manasseh.
She read the regrets of parents who sacrificed their children to a false God. This time it was baal-hammon that was believed to give a good crop or safe passage of goods to far-away markets in exchange for the lives of their children.
It was very hard reading.
After lunch Kelly started reading accounts from the first century. She knew that every book she read could be the life’s work of many archeologists and would change the interpretation of history. As a linguist. she knew the library and the artifacts would make the Rosetta Stone look like a common rock.
Then she started reading about the crucifixion of Jesus from those who carried it out as well as those who stood by and let it happen. Some from Roman soldiers, officers of the high priests and even some form his followers who felt powerless to stop it. The accounts where stunning.
The next day she came back and read accounts of Jesus’ Apostles and disciples who gave their lives for their faith. Then finally she read the last book Mr. Destiny had chosen. The account of Mr. Fate’s father’s regret for all of the people he couldn’t save. He did acknowledge gratitude for those he did save. She noted that God promised that he would forget our transgressions if we are truly repentant and put them as far away as the East is from the West.
When she finally announced to Mr. Destiny and Mr. Fate that she was done reading for a while she said. “I have to take some time to absorb all of this.”
Mr. Destiny said. “We understand dear Kelly. and we would ask you to indulge us just a little further”
Kelly quietly nodded in acquiescence, but remained silent.
Then Mr. Destiny went to a painting on the wall and slid it away. Again, he looked into another retinal scanner and the door to a safe opened. He reached in and took out what looked like an iPad. He sat close to her and turned it on.
When the device came to life, he told her: “This isn’t just any iPad, I have dedicated satellite space that will enable it to provide a secure connection from anywhere in the world.”
What Kelly saw next was series of long numbers. “Each of those are numbered bank accounts in several financial institutions that provide anonymous accounts.” He said.
Then he pushed a button and amounts appeared beside each number with a British Sterling sign beside each amount.
Kelly whispered: “What is this?”
Mr. Destiny answered: “The people we have helped over the centuries have been the aristocracy, wealthy and powerful people, and they have been very generous with their gifts. Not just the paintings and artifacts you have seen, but gold, silver, jewels, all in the vault below us. The collection of jewelry in it is like none other in the world. The money that was given, is now in these accounts.” He went on. You know that interest in half a lifetime can add up to a staggering sum. Just imagine how much would accumulate over hundreds of lifetimes. That is what you are looking at.”
Both men looked at her face to gage her reaction. Kelly didn’t disappoint. The blood rushed out of her face and her jaw dropped. Each figure was more than the gross national product of a country.
“Is this real? She asked.
Is It real Kelly
Her old friend Mr. Fate answered: “It is real Kelly, and that is the burden of responsibility we are asking you to take on. We have agreed that the miracle of all of this staying a secret is remarkable. It has to be here for a reason, it can’t just be destroyed when Christ returns. It has to have a purpose. That, dear Hope is what we want you to consider.”
That name snapped her out of the haze she was in. “You called me by my given name. I haven’t been called hope in years, not since the death of my parents.”
Mr. Fate smiled. “We knew that too.” He said.
